Security Layer
The layer that runs through all five
Security is not a sixth layer stacked on top — it is enforced independently inside each of the five. An agent cannot reach data its caller could not reach, and a workflow cannot move a record its initiator could not move. The controls below apply at every level of the stack.
Data Layer
Encryption and residency
AES-256 at rest, TLS 1.3 in transit, and per-region residency controls applied at the connector level so data never leaves an approved boundary during sync.
Knowledge Layer
Document-level permissions
Indexed content inherits the access rules of its source system. A document a user cannot open is a document their agent cannot cite.
Workflow Layer
Policy enforcement
Approval thresholds, segregation of duties, and exception routing are enforced by the workflow engine rather than left to agent discretion.
Agent Layer
Scoped credentials
Each agent runs with the narrowest set of system permissions its workflow requires, issued per-agent and revocable without touching other agents.

Every figure surfaced to leadership carries its source, its freshness, and the chain of agents and transformations that produced it.

Every action — automated or human — is written to an append-only log with actor, input, output, and the rule that authorized it. Exportable for compliance review.
Multi-Agent Coordination
One agent is a tool. Several are a system.
Most operational work crosses departments. A signed contract has to reach finance, a new hire has to reach IT, a late shipment has to reach the customer. Single-purpose agents stall at those boundaries because each one only sees its own step.
Coordination happens through the Agent Layer, over shared state in the Knowledge Layer. Agents do not call each other directly. Each one writes its result to the workflow record, and the orchestrator decides what runs next based on that record and the governance rules attached to it — which is what makes the chain auditable rather than emergent.
The practical consequence: adding an agent does not require rewriting the agents around it, and a failure in one step suspends that step rather than the whole chain.
Example: an inbound signed contract
Detects the countersigned contract, extracts terms, dates, and payment schedule, and writes them to the workflow record.
Checks extracted terms against approved contract policy. Non-standard clauses halt the chain and escalate to legal.
Opens the billing schedule from the payment terms on the record and queues the first invoice for review.
Creates the delivery workstream, assigns the owner, and sets milestone dates from the contract dates.
Files the executed contract, indexes it against the customer, and makes the terms retrievable to every downstream agent.
Updates pipeline, bookings, and revenue recognition views so leadership sees the change without anyone reporting it.
Every handoff above is a governed step: each one can be configured to run automatically, require approval, or halt pending review.
